Super Personal Contribution Payments

I have set up new Pay Item for personal superannuation payments for an employee but the options for the ATO reporting are only SG Super or To be assigned. I chose to be assigned but then payroll says I'm not compliant with the ATO. I have made one report/payment to the ATO so far and it seemed to go through with no dramas?

Well that explains it and I don't know how I did not find that in my research, thank you so much its been driving me crazy 😊

  • Hi JanelleJackson,

Thanks for checking in. You did the right thing asking before the next pay. Awesome that your STP went through with no errors, but you’ll still need to set the correct reporting category for the personal super to avoid any issues going forward.

You’re seeing the “not ATO compliant” message because the pay item doesn’t have an ATO reporting category. If the personal super contribution is employer-paid, you’d usually map it to Superannuation Guarantee, but it really depends on the exact contribution type and your business situation. It’s best to confirm with your accountant or the ATO to pick the right category.

    Cheers,

    Princess

  • Hi JanelleJackson - thanks for the question.

Check that you've set the Contribution type correctly in the new super pay item. This controls which ATO reporting categories you can set for that pay item.

If you need more details about setting up additional super contributions, take a look at this handy help topic: Additional superannuation contributions

    I hope this helps!

Thanks Adrian, I have chosen the contribution type as 'Employee additional 'deduction, which I believe is the correct one but the only options in the ATO reporting drop down is 'not reportable' or 'to be assigned' ?
