3 Months Ongoing – Major Regression Breaking Customer Search & Bulk Emails (Looking for Others Affected)

Hi everyone,

I’m posting this because a major regression in MYOB Business has now been ongoing since August, and despite multiple support cases and confirmations from MYOB, it still hasn’t been resolved. I want to see if any other users are experiencing the same issue, because at this stage it is affecting our daily operations.

Here’s what’s happening:

1. Customer Search Stops Working From “VA” Onwards

When we try to search for a customer while viewing existing invoices, sales or quotes, MYOB simply cannot find any customers whose names begin with “VA” or later in the alphabet.

This isn’t a typo — every customer after “VA” upwards alphabetically becomes invisible in the search field.

  • Happens on Mac and Safari
  • Happens on Windows and Chrome
  • Happens across multiple users
  • Happens across multiple customers

This feature used to work perfectly until August. Then one day it didn’t. That’s the definition of a regression.

2. Bulk Emailing Invoices Fails for the Same Customer Range

When emailing multiple invoices at once, MYOB shows:

“One or more selected invoices don’t have a customer email.”

But the customers do have valid email addresses saved in both Billing and Shipping.

The system simply refuses to recognise them.

And the bug affects the exact same alphabetical range — customers from “VA” onwards.

So it’s clearly the same underlying defect.

3. Why this matters

This breaks basic, everyday functionality:

  • We can’t reliably search customers while handling sales
  • We can’t bulk email invoices for a portion of our database
  • The suggested workaround (typing into the generic search box) doesn’t let you combine filters like:
    • Customer + PO number
    • Customer + invoice amount
  • We spend extra time checking and resending invoices individually
  • It affects cashflow when bulk email runs fail or skip customers
  • Staff double-handle work because MYOB is misbehaving

This isn’t a “quality of life suggestion” or an enhancement request — it’s a core part of how the software is supposed to work and has always worked until this regression.

4. MYOB’s Response So Far

To MYOB’s credit, support did confirm the issue under:

  • Case 02464725 (customer search regression)
  • Case 02563489 (bulk email failure)

The cases remain open, but MYOB has said there is:

❌ No timeframe

❌ No prioritisation change

❌ No workaround that replaces the original functionality

And as of November, the issue is still exactly the same.

5. Why I’m posting here

I’m hoping to find out:

  • Are other MYOB Business users experiencing this?
  • Can anyone else reproduce customers disappearing from search starting at “VA”?
  • Has anyone found a better workaround?
  • Has MYOB provided different information to other users?

If this is affecting more businesses, it will help MYOB assess the real impact and hopefully move this regression forward in their backlog.

If you’ve seen anything similar, even once, please reply.

It will help all of us.

Update on this issue – now affecting 340 contacts and growing

Posting an update because this problem has escalated far beyond what was originally reported.

When I first raised this, the issue only seemed to affect contacts alphabetically after a certain point in the list. That was already concerning — but the situation has now significantly worsened.

    What’s happening now

    • The cutoff point in the alphabetical list keeps moving further up.
    • As of today, around 340 contacts in our file are affected.
    • These contacts do not appear when:
      • Searching existing invoices, quotes or sales orders
      • Using bulk email for invoices/statements
    • All affected contacts still appear normally in the Contacts list.

    Why this is serious

This is a growing and unpredictable issue that directly impacts:

    • Access to historical sales documents
    • Ability to bulk-email customers
    • Basic AR workflow
    • Day-to-day operations relying on contact search

Every day, more contacts become undiscoverable through standard search in sales screens, which effectively cripples core functionality.

    Additional context

    • MYOB’s documentation does not state any limit on the number of contacts in a file.
    • There is no mention of a maximum number of results the sales search can return.
    • This behaviour therefore appears to be a defect, not an expected limitation.

    Request to MYOB

This needs to be recognised as a high-impact regression.

It is expanding over time and affecting a critical part of the software.

Please escalate to engineering for investigation into search/indexing behaviour at scale.

    Request to other users

If anyone else is experiencing contact searches failing beyond a certain alphabetical point — especially when searching invoices, quotes or bulk email — please comment. Even brief confirmations will help MYOB understand the scope.
