Applying a credit to a purchase already paid

I need to apply a credit note to a purchase/bill that has already been paid. So when I try to allocate the debit to a bill I can't.

I can't delete the payment and apply the credit as the total amount will be different to what left my bank account.

  • Hi nicolehealey1,

Welcome to the Community Forum! To apply a credit note to a purchase/bill that has already been paid, you will need to follow these steps: Create the Credit Note: First, ensure that you have created a credit note for the supplier. This can be done by entering a negative purchase bill or using a dedicated "Create Credit Purchase" button if available. Match the Credit Note to the Bill: Once the credit note is created, you need to apply it to the relevant bill. In AccountRight, you can do this by selecting the supplier debit and then clicking "Apply to Purchase." A list of open bills will appear, and you can change the Debit Amount field to match the amount left owing on the bill. Adjust the Payment: Since the bill has already been paid, you cannot directly allocate the credit note to the paid bill without adjusting the payment. You may need to reverse the original payment, apply the credit note, and then re-enter the payment with the adjusted amount.

    I hope this helps!
