Is it best to get a refund from the superfund instead of just reducing the SGC paid to cover the overpayment?

Hi JessS,
Great question! The best way forward really depends on what your employee’s comfortable with and what the super fund will allow or require settling the overpayment. Both options are fine, just choose based on the employee’s situation and the fund’s rules. I’d say chat with your employee and the super fund first before making a move.
Cheers,
Princess

i reached out to the superfund and it seems like a bit of a process and thats if they even accept and refund the money.
if i do it through payroll. how exactly is the best way to process that? im not sure how i would do this ...pay the usualy SGC and put the employer super in as a negative? or would i have to set up a deduction? I'm a bit lost unfortunately.

Hey JessS,
Appreciate the legwork you’ve already done with the super fund and the clear rundown of where you’re stuck in payroll. The best move is to chat with your accountant for tailored advice on the exact treatment for your business. Once they confirm the method you want to use, we can help you put it through so everything reconciles neatly.
Cheers,
Doreen
