Issues signing up for Pay Super with WPN

We are a WPN holder (Withholding Payer Number) as we are not eligible for ABN due to the nature of our organisation. We have been using SBSCH, but as its closure is coming up in 2026, we are now trying to transition to Pay Super on our AccountRight Live Plus to stay SuperStream compliant.

ATO's advice is to use WPN in pace of ABN to use SuperStream (refer to the ATO's website below), however we are unable to sign up for Pay Super as our WPN was not accepted in business details (an error message "This ABN's invalid" comes up). It was also unsuccessful with added zeros to make the number 11 digits.

Could you advise how we can go around this issue? Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you for getting back to me and for the ATO information. Could I please clarify though, in case I misunderstood, is it the SBSCH that you're proposing we sign up to? We already use SBSCH and are seeking an alternative as they are closing in 2026. Or is there a different platform in ATO Online Services that we can use as a WPN holder?

    Many thanks.

    Hi SEC232

The “ATO portal” just means using ATO Online services to get into the ATO’s Small Business Super Clearing House (SBSCH), which lets employers with a WPN pay super under SuperStream.

If you’re an individual WPN holder, hop into myGov > ATO Online > Employees > SBSCH; if you’re a club/association with a WPN, you register by calling 1300 660 048 or emailing SBSCHenquiries@ato.gov.au with “WPN HOLDER” and the employee list attached.

Quick heads‑up: If you choose this route, WPN won’t work with your MYOB software, as it requires an ABN.

    Regards,
    Genreve

    Hi Doreen,

Thank you for your swift response. Could you kindly specify that you mean by "ATO portal which allows for registration using a WPN"?

    Many thanks.

    Hey SEC232,

You’re spot on to ask, and good call trying to get ahead of the SBSCH changes. Signing up to Pay Super does require an ABN, which is why your WPN triggered the “This ABN’s invalid” error and why padding zeros won’t work. A couple of handy routes to go with are to obtain an ABN through the ATO so you can enroll in Pay Super, or to sign up on the ATO portal which allows for a registration using a WPN.

    Cheers,

    Doreen
