Payroll deduction exempt from Super Guarantee

Hi, I am setting up a non-super salary sacrifice deduction and am unable to exempt this payroll category from super guarantee. The sacrificed amount is not deemed OTE.

Is there a workaround? I saw a post from three years ago,

Salary Sacrifice Deduction Exempt from Super Guarantee in MYOB AccountRight but this was not resolved.

I have thought about setting the deduction up as a wage category instead. Has anyone else done this?

Any suggestions welcome.

Sorry about that, looks like we missed the question in that link. This side of payroll can definitely be a bit tricky. MYOB calculates super using gross earnings (total pay before tax), not the final take-home net pay. That’s why you can't just mark the deduction as exempt or try to use a wage category to lower the super amount.

As the correct treatment depends on the specific arrangement and whether the amount forms part of OTE, your best bet is to verify it with Fair Work or the ATO. They'll ensure you're fully covered and the employee isn't underpaid.

    Cheers,
