STP report to ATO differs from Payroll Reports

Hi I'm an accountant doing year end for  a client.

The client has processed the payroll during the year but comparing ATO reports with the ledger the amount is greater, that is what has been reported to the ATO is greater than what was actually paid to several employees.  As the amount reported is greater than what is in MYOB I am unable to identify which employees this effects.
The bookkeeper that processed the wages has since resigned.

I believe when processing payroll during the year when a mistake was made she would delete the payrun after it was lodged with the ATO rather than reversing it and then did the correct payrun and lodged this with the ATO.  Hence the over reporting.

The payroll for 2024 has been finalised by the bookkeeper with the ATO.

How do I correct this via MYOB.

Thanks for you help in advance.

Janet

    Hi StrategicWealth,

To address the discrepancy between the ATO reports and the ledger, you can check the payroll register, payroll activity, and YTD verification reports to identify where the differences are coming from. Once you identify the affected employees, you can lodge amendments with the ATO to correct the over-reported amounts. You can also check this link for more information.

    Best regards,
