Chart of Accounts 4 Digits to 5 Digits

Hello,

My chart of accounts is currently set up with 4-digit codes (e.g. 6-1234). I’d like to change this so that I can use 5-digit codes under expenses (e.g. 6-12345).

From what I’ve found online, it seems this used to be a setting you could change, but now it can only be selected when creating a new company file.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Is there any way to change an existing chart of accounts from 4 digits to 5 digits?

Thank you.

    Hi adzcas!

The number of digits for account codes in MYOB is set when you create the company file. It can’t be changed later.

When setting up a new company file in MYOB Business or AccountRight, you can select:

    Numeric account codes only

The number of digits (usually 4 or 5)

Once the file is created, this setting is locked.

If you need to move from 4-digit to 5-digit codes, the only option is to create a new file with the correct setting and then migrate your data. This process usually involves exporting and importing lists and balances, or using a migration service if you need full history carried over.

Thank you, feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance.
