MYOB should be able to have a way of being able to distinguish between data files.
This would be of tremendous help to those who work with multiple files.
Can we please get this done?

We run more than one business from the same office. This can be a tad confusing at times. Also, we sometimes have an old datafile open so that we can look up an invoice from 2 years back or similar; it's not unknown for us to then start putting a current invoice into an old datafile.
The solution? The facility to change the colour scheme in each datafile so they are easily identifiable. If the trading company came up with red colours, the family trust with yellow, and the asset company in greens, we'd instantly know which one we should be working on.
Is it a possiblity?

When using MYOB the background colour of the screen needs to be a different colour for each company file. This should be able to be changed to assist in identifying which company you are working on, as a trigger when you have many company files with many staff using each company file, this would reduce the amount of incorrect entries in the incorrect company.
Example:-
Clearwater - back ground RED so you know its the test company
Actual Company - background gray
Additional Company 1 - back ground green
Additional Company 2 - back ground blue etc

Excellent suggestion.

Unfortunately your excellent suggestion already exists as a "new idea" that is under consideration on this link Distinguishing Multiple Company Data Files; it was posted nearly 3 years ago on 21/5/2012, has 13 votes and is "Under Consideration".
If the idea is ever going to have a chance at getting implemented it needs many more votes and comments such as yours.
Please vote for it by clicking the "+ Vote" icon and add your comments; suggest you do a copy and paste from what you have already posted into the existing idea on the abovementioned link.
Thank you.

I have 3 companies set up in MYOB.
When all 3 are open, it is difficult to know which is which on the tool bar. It would be really helpfull to be able to change the grey screen to other colours so that you dont put the data into the wrong company which Ihave done many times.

Thanks PMO1968 you read my mind I was thinking about this the other day as I too keep posting things in the wrong files if I have more than one open dangerous :smileyfrustrated: Would be good to even be able to change the colour of the MYOB icon on the toolbar so when it is on the toolbar you open the correct one.

Would be nice to be able to change the colours of MYOB Command Centre and pop ups to suit the user - or however to indicate that the file they have opened is an old version -
or perhaps - enable text to be written across the front of Command centre giving warnings - pop-up notes perhpas.
Something to enable - warning that you have opened an old file - sure you can lock it - but be nice to enable warning via text popup - colour change - something.

It would be wonderful to be able to select different background colours - files all look the same when dealing with several business entities

Hello Jen,
Welcome the MYOB community forum.
The background colour within AccountRight is not customisable. The main way to differentiate between files is by the filename. When you have a company file open the filename will be in the displayed in the titlebar (top left-hand corner of the screen). When you first create a file the filename will default to the company name - but it can be changed later so that it displays additional information.
To change the name of your file go open the My AccountRight Files folder on your hard drive. By default, this will be in the following location:
Windows Vista/Windows: 7/Windows Server 2008: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\MYOB\My AccountRight Files
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\MYOB\My AccountRight FilesOne you have opened this folder right click on your file and click rename.

Thank you Liam
I am fully aware of the File names displayed in the toolbar; however I was just hoping that there was some way to customise this program. I find sometimes when a company completely disregards core functionality of their programme package they will include a rarely used feature, such as the one I was hoping for.
Oh well, back to the buyer’s remorse.

Hi JenWestside,
Just another suggestion. Every company file has it's own company file ID number that can be found through your Help menu >> About AccountRight. Why this wouldn't be the best way, it's another way of confirming you are in the correct file.
