Can we please have offline backups back? I don't like the idea of having everything in the cloud and having no control whatsoever over MY datafile.
Offline Backups

Thankfully this isn't an everyday occurrence, but there have been times when I've needed to open both the current data file and a backup copy to compare transactions line by line and identify where something went wrong.
A few questions regarding the removal of local backups:
- As things stand today, is the only way to access a backup data file through MYOB Support?
- What happens if we need access to multiple backup copies to investigate an issue over a period of time? For example, if we needed to review backups spanning a month, would they all be provided at once, or would we need to submit a separate request for each backup version? In other words, request the latest backup, then the next one, and so on.
- When a backup copy is restored, will it be possible to open that file at the same time as our current live data file for comparison purposes?
- If we are relying solely on MYOB's 7-day backup retention, and a worst-case scenario occurs requiring a rollback, does that mean we could potentially lose up to seven days' worth of data entry?
I'm keen to understand how these scenarios would be handled in practice, particularly for troubleshooting and recovery situations where access to historical versions is critical.

Hi lisadgs
totally agree and like you there have been countless occasions where I've needed to refer back to earlier data. I've always kept a complete copy of my clients data files (prior to end of year rollover) which means I can go back as far as the year 2000 in various versions of MYOB.

Hey lisadgs
You can restore backups from your AccountRight software! When you restore an online backup, your current online company file will be replaced with the backed up version. This can't be undone. More information is available on this page.
You wouldn't need to request a backup as you have all the functionality from the software to be able to view and restore previous backups. AccountRight backs up online company files that have had changes in the previous 7 days. It means you can relax knowing we're saving regular point-in-time versions of your online company file that you can roll back to if needed. You can also manually create online backups whenever you like and name them appropriately. These will be accessible along with the automatically created ones which you can restore when necessary. You will not be able to open up multiple backups at the same time.
Hope this helps!

Spot on Lisadgs! Amanda - you are not listening.
My understanding from discussions with my account is that you absolutely do have your data written over.
I don't understand why I in the past I have been able to choose if I wanted to back up to the cloud or locally and now I cannot. This system suited me just fine; I could have the cloud on most occasions and keep a local back up at least once a month just in case. We have seen multiple examples of security breaches in large companies recently. I would feel much safer if I could put a ring around a local back just in case of a MYOB security breach.
MYOB needs to stop telling customer what they SHOULD WANT and listen to what the DO WANT. I want the ability to locally backup. I know the software supported this not that long ago - reinstate that functionality asap please!

Yes and the other thing is that whilst we could do a backup of our "current day" MYOB datafile, name it carefully, restore an older backup which overwrites our "current day" data, review what we need to and then restore the "current day" backup, BUT this is fraught with danger and risk of error. Not everyone is as understanding or methodical and this seems like a SEVERE RISK of losing potentially endless amounts of "current day" data and costing HOURS upon HOURS of time to get back.
This is not a solution MYOB. We need the option to keep our current day data untouched and out of harms way and restore a backup as a separate file that can be read only and reviewable. This should go to the top of the PRIORITY list. Thank you

Hi AmandaMYOB
I was under the understanding - you can't restore a backup over the top as it will muck up the bank feeds. This is why it has been requested we have another environment to be able to restore backups into - without damaging/affecting the live data

Hey jenniek
Your bank feed connection will still continue even if you've restored an online backup.
The restored file only contains bank-feed transactions that existed when that backup was taken; newer transactions may need to be downloaded again. After restoring, you can click on Banking > Get Bank Transactions and reconcile any transactions that appear.
