Can we change XLT templates to XLTX?

New to AccountRight and my Windows 11 is blocking the excel reports that come out of AccountRight due to a policy which at this stage cannot be changed. Only allowed to open .xlsx files, and AccountRight creates .xls

I found the the source of the excel reports, which are all .xlt templates (97-2003 Excel files), which is blocked by my computer.

Can we change these files to .xltx files? Would MYOB AccountRight recognise them? I don't want to try it if it will break MYOB....

Thank you!!

    Hey Maria_A,

You're spot on about those Excel reports. AccountRight uses .xlt templates, and with Windows 11 playing gatekeeper, it can block those files due to your system's security policy. While it might be tempting to switch them over to .xltx, AccountRight isn't built to recognise the newer format— so changing them could stop the reports from working properly. Best bet is to leave the templates as-is, and if possible, have a quick word with your IT team to see if there's any wriggle room for those specific file types.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

  • Hi Maria
Could you provide the version of MYOB you are using?
    Latest version is MYOB 2025.4.1.4
You can find this under help and about MYOB

    Thanks Maria
another question is your version of excel
Do you have Microsoft 365 installed?

  • Hi Chris, yes it is Microsoft 365.

In File Block Settings, it is blocking all 97-2003 workbooks and templates and this cannot be changed by me or the administrator (I tried with our IT department). Most people are still on Windows 10 and don't have that problem, but since we will all upgrade to 11 anyhow, I needed a solution.

I got a response from MYOB Support saying that I cannot change .xlt to .xltx as AccountRight will not recognise the file - the only option is to change security policy.

But I'm all ears if you have a workaround :)

    Thanks
