Offline Backup No Longer Available

This morning I was advised by MYOB support that from April 15 I would no longer be able to do offline backups.  This has to be wrong.  I have found the security preference that allows me to switch to online backup's and wanted to talk this through with customer support and that's when I was given what has to be incorrect information.

In general, I'm struggling with MYOB support mis information, no information and issues that just aren't being addressed/solved.  I was happy with MYOB 19 and our requirements (three very small company files) are such that we only upgraded because MYOB was no longer going to allow you to verify V 19 files.

Have others experienced same.

I’m not sure how long since you left v19 but there is a third-party (FGH Tables) who can provide a confirmation for old files for a reasonable price. I think you have been misinformed as well because the off-line/online options under preferences, security is a new facility. It would seem to be unusual to provide the two options and then say you can’t do online backups.

    Hi RDU,

Sorry for the confusion. You can still do offline backups, and yes, that Security > Preferences path you mentioned is spot on. To make it easier, here’s a handy link that'll guide you through creating offline backups.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

Thanks, I appreciate your response. It's so frustrating that the customer service rep couldn't provide as succinct and simple response as yourself. It was so obvious that they had no real understanding and I did request someone else call me back (which they haven't).

Doreen_P Could you please clarify if online backups still occur even when changing that preference via the security settings?

When we select the "enable off-line backups"  in the security > preferences path there is a pop-up warning message that seems quite clear that no online backup will be made when you enable off-line backups.   However, in MYOB's instructions that can be found via the handy link you suggest we see this message -

    Which is correct?

Please select the option of offline backup!   Last Thursday 7/5/26 MYOB lost our company file during their internal migration!   Their back end team keeps hiding behind their customer service staff in Philippines who cannot provide any updates or time frame as when the file will be restored .   We are getting nowhere today after a whole week listening to endless music on the phone.

    Hi JillL1,

Good question, especially with those two messages sounding a bit contradictory at first glance. This setting simply controls whether you want to use online or offline backups when you manually create or restore a backup, and you can switch it on or off whenever you like. If your company file is online, the automatic weekly online backups are still created regardless of that setting. So that preference changes the manual backup method, not whether MYOB continues doing its regular online backups in the background.

    Cheers,

    Doreen
