I am not sure how many apply a discount to every invoice but this needs to be a choice not a set item in the services and item template in invoices.
I went through the trouble of staring to itemise produccts but I shouldnt have bothered.
Unless I use the services and item template and my customers think that I didnt give them an invoice there is no other way to use the item ID.

Thank you for your post. Some users might create an item to keep track of discounts, but entering a discount for sales is normally done when taking the payment (Sales menu > Create invoice payment).
