Calculation of SGC for under 18 year olds

Why has MYOB changed the calculation of employee's under 18 for SGC to be manually calculated, when the law changed on 01 July that all employees were entitled to SGC no matter age or wage levels ?

  • Hi Chriske

Thanks for your post. The ATO changes to super for under 18s removed the $450 threshold, however, those employees do still need to work more than 30 hours per week for super to be payable. You can find more information on these changes on the ATO website: Employees under 18

From an AccountRight perspective, if the employee is paid weekly the software will automatically calculate super based on the hours worked. If they work more than 30 hours, super will be calculated and included in the pay. If they work 30 hours or less, super will not be calculated.

If they are not paid weekly you will need to manually check the hours worked and calculate super.

The Help Article, Paying super for employees aged under 18, has detailed information and instructions.
