STP Employee terminations display under incorrect payroll year

Hi

Could you please advise why on STP reporting, Employee terminations tab when drop down to previous payroll year, it shows terminated employees from later payroll year as well.

Is this normal?  As I assumed the it should only shows the terminated employees relevant to the payroll year you selected.

Thank you.

  • Hi SakunnaK - thanks for your question.

In the Employee terminations tab it’s expected that you may see employees appear when you switch the Payroll year, even if their actual termination fell in a later year.

This is because Single Touch Payroll (STP) works on year‑to‑date (YTD) totals for each employee, not just on the date they were terminated. An employee can still be relevant to an earlier payroll year if:

    • they had payments in that year, or
    • you might need to correct or re‑send STP information for that year.

So the year drop‑down is really choosing the STP year you’re working in, rather than strictly filtering the list to employees whose termination date falls in that year.

I hope this clarifies things for you!

    Adrian
