A follow up - the problem escalated, but working with the phoneline help, we established that my icon was not pointing to the latest version of AR. Once this was fixed we were able to make progress.
I got phoneline verification, which will enable me to finish my GST ontime :-)
I'm not sure if this will solve the automatic verification problem, but I will check this once I've completed my GST.
