MYOB AccountRight Offline mode is ending

As a MYOB user for 30 years, we have developed a system of backing up ledgers when they have been reconciled to Tax accountants Financial Reports, prior to rolling into the new financial year.

Recently I was unable to do that.

Most of my clients have been with me for more than 20 years, and I have had situations of having to provide EBITA reports for 10 year periods, which I was able to produce confidently, because of my reconciled backups.

Additionally, due to the 3 year access rule of AccountRight if the Tax Accountants haven’t provided their tax financials, we can’t run reports in the current year because the ledger hasn’t been rolled. to overcome this, we backed up the ledger and rolled it as it was to get the reports we needed

how does MYOB propose we get around these issues, now that we can no longer open a backup in offline mode?

thanks Amanda MYOB, I expected that would be the procedure, I just don't trust it.

Its the same with loading tax invoices to MYOB, we keep a copy on our own servers, as experience has shown the government tax officials can go back more than 5 years when they are on a mission, and if you dont have the proof, they make clients pay.

I  have read on this site, that there is no easy way to harvest the loaded tax invoices when needed for an audit, am I wrong?

Thank Mike, I am aware of that ability, we will experiment with that in our own ledger first, when staff resources increase, so I have time.

    Hi AmandaMYOB

So, in summary, if I need to look at a backup from say 3 years ago, I restore it (if it can be read by the current version) on top of our live file, look, get reports etc, then overwrite the live file with a backup of our live file we just took?  So then if we have anyone else working on the current data we have to tell them to not do any accounting while we look at the old data? This is quite interruptive as backups and restores are not the quickest things to perform.  What would be nice is a "free" read only restore license where you could restore old backups to view, and they could be temporary (like a week or so)

    Regards

    Damien

    Hey AAW12

To view previous backups, you'd need to take an online backup of your current file. Once done you'll be able to restore an older backup over the top of your live file. After you've finished retrieving information from the older backup, you can restore your current file back to your online environment. Our support team are always available to help you understand the available options if you have further questions.

Hi AAW12 , to your last point, for a few years now it's been possible to add/change transactions in previous years, so you should now be able to start a new year without waiting for the tax accountants.
