Budget Management Report

I have created a Budget Management report and I access it regularly. I entered an opening bank balance but often when I come back to the report after being timed out or logging out the opening balance has disappeared. Is this a software issue or is it something that I am doing wrong? I am a new user to MYOB.

  • Hi heathera

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. We've seen similar cases where the opening bank balance doesn't save properly in Budget Management.

If re-entering it doesn't stick, I'd recommend contacting support through My Account or Live Chat through MOCA, our virtual assistant, so they can check the file further.

Has anyone had experience of using the solution of running a script on the file to fix this?   Wondering if the solution might be more problematic than manually re-entering the opening balance in the budget report.    We have been offered three solutions.

One was to edit the opening balance via Setup/Balances/Account Opening Balance.   We did not try this as did not want to cause an out of balance issue within the GL.

Another option was to export to excel and work there.   We are also not keen on this option as it then limits the benefits of working within MYOB.   i.e. being able to run comparison reports and treat this as a live document ongoing (we are using this function as a 12 month cash flow budget).

The third is to have a script run on the file, which will delete all budget data.   Backing up the budget via an export to a CSV file is not a complete backup so we will need to re-enter data anyway.    The script "should" only affect budget data but there does not appear to be complete confidence in that from MYOB support.

Our final option, which might be the best, is to do nothing and manually enter the opening cash balance each time.
