We have just encountered this issue after our IT security has been tightened, and I have to say that it is disappointing that MYOB still generates reports in a format introduced in 1997 and superseded by.xlsx in 2007. The shift toward actively recommending restrictions on legacy Office formats has become increasingly prominent through Microsoft 365 security baselines and hardening measures during the early 2020s, so MYOB has had plenty of time to address this.
We have a multitude of business reporting processes that have been developed around using Excel reports from MYOB, so having to use the CSV workaround is not trivial for us. It is also not simply a matter of switching to the browser version as a number of the reports that we use in the desktop version do not appear to exist in the browser version.
It would be nice to see MYOB invest a bit more in keeping the desktop version up to date, or alternatively if the long-term plan is to encourage users to switch exclusively to the browser version, providing the same functionality there.
