Super reconciliation report figure differs from employee super advice

I am trying to reconcile my superannuation file which hasn't been done for quite awhile and have come across three entries that are different amounts than what is on the employee superannuation advice. The amounts on the employee superannuation advice are greater than the corresponding entry amounts on the reconciliation report. Consequently I cannot reconcile. Like I said it goes back awhile and I was thinking perhaps I could do a Journal entry to put the balance difference into the rec Report so that I can reconcile it.

  • Hi mackdog,

Yes, it's possible to use a journal entry, but I’d really recommend checking with your accountant first before recording one, just to avoid creating more issues later on.

The first thing I’d suggest is identifying why those three super entries are different, because that will point you to the right fix. A good place to start is checking the payment date rather than just the pay period, since super accruals are based on when the wages were actually paid. It’s also worth checking your Super Payments report so you can see all the super amounts that have been accrued, paid, and are still outstanding in your file. This forum post goes through some of the key fields to check when reconciling super. It’s an older post, but the info in it is still really helpful for tracking down where the difference is coming from.

    Cheers,
