Why are MYOB Reports so slow in this day and age? Constant crashes, time outs, failures just trying to bring up 6-12 months of Sales History for 1 customer.

Hi All,

Why is producing MYOB Reports (Account Right Desktop), sales history etc still so slow and glitchy in this modern day and age?

Constant crashes, time outs, failures just trying to bring up 6-12 months of Sales History for 1 customer.

It wastes so much time for our sales team and office waiting watching the the spinning wheel. Nothing else can be done while waiting.

Does anyone else experience this frustration?

I really hope improvements can be made. Even if it was Database size or something, with tech these days and the speed it should be better.

And MYOB dont give us any option anymore to compress database I believe?

Any tips or ideas we would love to hear. Its pushing us to seriously look at competitor alternatives, but we wish we didnt have to go through that transistion pain.

Thanks Nathan

Thanks gavin12345 and Doreen_P for your reply and suggestions.

I struggle with some of the suggestions how it is benifical or practical, and really feel like MYOB after all these years and where other competitors software is at, that its not great.

These issue with some suggestions is that our team of 5-8 people are constantly throughtout a day here and there, using sales / inventory reports to find customer purchase history, equipment sale records for warranty purposes, item sale history for inventory purposes.

We find both the desktop and online version both are tedious and slow. Both freeze, crash and are super frustating to produce consistant reliable reports without waiting minutes for it to sometime work and sometimes not. On rare occasions it will work and quite quick. It is just super inconsistant.

Should'nt running reports and having access to history easily be a prime function of sales / account software like this, no?

    1. Running smaller reports is not a great fix. We would expect at a minimum to be able to run sales or inventory reports for a 12 month period minimum. For example it is not practical to run small reports of 2-3 months, we are trying to find when a customer purchased a piece of equipment or a particulare product over a 2-3 years period. It would take staff so much time to product multiple little reports.

    2. The suggestion to store these reports offline, is ok but it will be challenging to even product and save a report with enough scope, without having lots and lots of date ranges.

    3. Does internet speed have much impact?

    4. Suggestion to start new company file. I struggle to see how this acheives anything as we lose all the very data we need and are trying to use.

Regarding the comment "MYOB's 'no offline backup or restore' policy", what is this and why? How does this help the customer / us? And why can't we the myob customer / user not download local copies of our company file anymore for backup purposes or transfer services to other software?

I struggle why MYOB seem to be struggling to keep up with some competitors and the progression of other software for the size of the company and user base.

I think the best idea is to try and "get in touch with MYOX Services - they provide a purge service that removes closed prior year transactions. This can substantially reduce the file and speed up processing."

    I will try that.

    Thanks Nathan

  • Hi nduro

Sounds like your file might be getting too big. While MYOB don't give you any option to reduce the size of the file, you can get in touch with MYOX Services - they provide a purge service that removes closed prior year transactions. This can substantially reduce the file and speed up processing.

FYI this service may no longer be available after 17 June 2026 due to MYOB's 'no offline backup or restore' policy. At which point your only option for efficient processing would be to start a new file. And this means you may lose any in tray documents you have attached to the current file.

    Regards

    Gavin

    Hi nduro,

Totally get the frustration here, staring at a spinning wheel. For AccountRight desktop, slow or crashing reports are usually from big date ranges + big/old files, especially when you’re trying to pull 6–12 months of history in one go.

    Quick wins to try:

    • Run the report in smaller chunks (e.g. 1–3 months at a time) and keep filters as tight as possible.
    • Export what you need to Excel/PDF for the sales team so you’re not re-running heavy reports all day.

If it’s still crashing, it’s worth logging a support case via My Account with your file size, whether it’s online/local, and the exact report, so the team can check for any performance issues with your specific file. You can also contact them on Live Chat via our virtual assistant, MOCA.

    Cheers,

    Doreen
