Preferred name - Payroll

Hi all, I've been trying to find a way to change the name on an employee's payslip but leave their STP info unchanged. They have a preferred name but have not offically changed it as yet. Does anyone know if there's a way to do this? Can I change their "First Name" in contact details without it messing with STP and taxation stuff?

Thanks so much.

  • Hey sandymcf,

When you update an employee's name in their card file, this change will also be submitted to the ATO for STP. This likely affects how their name appears in STP reports and for tax purposes, as the details in the card file are what's sent to the ATO.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

I enter their preferred name in brackets after their first name.  So for someone named Robert who gets called Bob, I enter their first name as:  Robert ("Bob").

Not a perfect solution, but it has not caused any issues with the ATO as far as I am aware.
