Importing opening inventory quantities across 2 locations

I have created a new MYOB Accountright Premier file and i have imported approx 8000 items.  We are migrating this from another software provider.  I have also entered my opening account balances from my trial balance.  I have 2 locations set up in MYOB and i am now ready to import my opening inventory quantities.  Any advice on whether I can enter the opening balances split across 2 locations from a csv or do i need to import the total quantity and then use the Move Items function to assign stock to the correct location

    Hi DizzyKP,

Nice work getting 8,000 items and your opening balances across, that’s a sizeable migration job. You shouldn’t need to import one total quantity and then manually shuffle everything between locations. For AccountRight Premier, use an Inventory Adjustments import with one row per item and location. The import can include the Item Number, Location, Quantity and Unit Cost, so you can split each item across your two existing locations, provided the items and locations have already been created in the file: Import and export fields. Before importing all 8,000 items, take a backup and test a small batch first. As you’ve already entered the trial balance, it’s also worth checking the adjustment account and values carefully so the inventory balance isn’t duplicated. Move items between locations can be used to correct any stock that lands in the wrong location.

  • Thanks for your reply Doreen.

First time importing anything so yes it has been a big project.  So far all good until now.

So there are 2 compulsory fields that need to be selected in the import process, the item number (SKU) and the 'amount' - which from my reading is the quantity times the unit cost.  I notice you didnt mention this field in your reply, and it is giving me some grief.

In your experience is there a way of circumventing this manatory field?

    Hi DizzyKP,

The Amount field is required for the import. For an AccountRight inventory adjustment import, the Amount field can’t be left blank or bypassed. It needs to match the quantity multiplied by the unit cost for each item and location line. Please include the Item Number, Location, Quantity, Unit Cost and Amount, and make sure the calculation and sign are exact.  If you’re only setting opening quantities, you can also enter them through an inventory adjustment in AccountRight instead of importing them. For a large number of items, exporting a sample inventory adjustment first and using its exact column headings may help. You can also visit this help page for more information about: Making inventory adjustments
