This doesn't resolve the issue of being able to save a backup locally. The option suggested on your link no longer exists. You cannot choose "Enable offline backups" from the Security tab. It is not clear how to save a local backup - please explain.
Hey VPUWS
The option to take a backup offline is no longer available in MYOB AccountRight.
We originally announced the changes to MYOB AccountRight offline mode a month ago, emails also would've been sent to any users that would be impacted by this change in advance to avoid any confusion and allow for preparation.
You can find the full post here for more information on what these changes look like.

Hi AmandaMYOB ,
There seems to be an effort to conflate removing "Offline Mode" to removing "Offline Backups" (maybe deliberate?). They should be treated as 2 separate issues. Even if you don't allow us to work with an offline file or restore from an offline backup, we would still like the ability to take offline backups for obvious reasons. If something does happen to MYOB at least we have a chance of recovering our data, rather than the Zero chance if we don't have offline backups.
If there is an alternative, please let us know.

Another stroke of genius from our ever-devolving MYOB solution.
Even Microsoft allows businesses to keep offline copies of SharePoint and OneDrive data. If eliminating offline backups was such a brilliant idea, surely they would have been the first to implement it.
Instead, MYOB has removed a long-standing safeguard that many businesses rely on for disaster recovery and data independence.
The message seems to be: trust us completely with your accounting data and forget about maintaining your own backup strategy.
On ya, MYOB.

Hi Amanda
Well we never received anything from MYOB about these changes. We have to keep our backups off line in accordance with our QA system and the ATO.

How can we download the backup from offline to store locally?
This is about controlling our own backups. MYOB do not have a great trust track record and we want to be in control of our own backups not just told you have it under control.

Hi Amanda
I note that online backups are stored in the cloud for 6 months, what happens to our backups if we require a copy of our online back that was dated 7 months ago, can we still get access to it?

Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your response — I’ve read the full post you linked, however it doesn’t address the core issue we’re experiencing.
Your explanation doesn’t clarify why an online user accessing an AccountRight online file through the desktop app can no longer perform a local backup. Our company has used AccountRight online (not offline) from the moment it became available, and until the 2026.5 update we were always able to create local backups directly from the desktop version.
Could you please confirm:
How can an online AccountRight file be backed up locally now — either via the MYOB web browser version or the AccountRight desktop application while the file is online?
We need to maintain local backups for compliance and internal policy, so understanding the correct process under 2026.25is essential.
Thanks in advance for your clarification.

Hey CarolineG
The offline version of MYOB AccountRight desktop is built on technology that no longer meets today’s performance standards. The removal of offline functionality in AccountRight means that offline backups are no longer available with the software, only online backups. More information about online backups can be found here.

I find this decision extraordinary at a time when cyber threats are increasing.
By disallowing customer-controlled local backups, MYOB is removing an important layer of resilience from businesses' data protection strategies. While provider-managed cloud backups have benefits, preventing customers from maintaining independent backup copies appears inconsistent with widely accepted principles of cyber risk management and business continuity.
I will now have to disclose to my business practice insurer that I can no longer maintain local backups of MYOB data, (one of the questions asked at our last renewal).
With this decision MYOB is accepting 100% responsibility for all security risks against my data.
What assurances do MYOB provide that my backups are completely protected from cyber threats?
What happens to backups that age past the 6 months?
