MYOB Backups

Thanks Doc.  Have managed to find that and download.  

I understand the programming problem, just wish it hadn't happened.  I'll keep my fingers crossed MYOB come up with a solution, with the help of people like yourself, I'm sure it will come.

I suspect it isn't available any more - I found this out by chance - when MYOB rolled out the PC Ed 2026.5 update it still had the ability to view and download to the local drive and restore as such - then suddenly that version overnight could do that anymore - but by pure luck I had got a copy of the 2026.5 PC edn that could do that.

Download the AR SE 2026.5 version and it will enable you to open 2026.5 files and backward.

The backup to the current working file has few options - backup yourself daily or let the auto MYOB back up weekly. But that is it - there is no hack or whatever to enable you to download these - you can back up restore only from the repository associated with that file...... you can ask through an email to support for a copy but it costs.

However, that backup is useless except to store - you can't open it, you cannot directly restore it to online - you can of course upload it to MYOB support and they could restore it to a subscribed account for yourself.

At present there are no really good answers to your questions to ensure you have all bases covered.

Even if I did some seriously night time work and hacked the database to enable opening future files - which I think is a real option - I can open the database and alter parameters but haven't done much Shelocking.

Also, I am not sure of the format a backup file from MYOB support comes in - likely they are using Azure but I am not sure..... it could be proprietary.

Thank you for your continued intelligent information/comments. 

Can you advise whether we can still get the PC AR version .exe file for the 2026.5 version to download and if so, where do I find it please.  At least then I can access all the backups I have on my hard drive. 

Do you have any ideas on how best to work the current MYOB backup so if the worse comes to the worse we can still ask for it to be restored?

I hope they seriously consider this.  I too a full user/cc since 94.  Now especially coming across businesses that have been using the program for many years.  I am coming across businesses that need a full revamp of their data file.  So to have historical is very important.  Thank you for your time

I think MYOB got bruised a little from the very bad roll out of the changes to AR SE - from an original standpoint of 'AR SE is being phased-out and backups will all be done online because software advances assert that offline backups aren't necessary anymore' - to nothing official but subtle changes in forum answers to  'we have identified a continuing need to be able to have off-line backups and to be able to open them offline'. 

For the record - after MYOB removed one of my posts - early in the piece - they contacted me offline and setup a video connection with their AccountRight Production Manager and another MYOB employee in UI and they/I discussed at length the who gambit of online, offline, the need for offline backups, sandpits for developers, etc. Though nothing was guaranteed from the hookup - they did listen to a very old salt who has had the full gambit of MYOB from 1994 to 2026 including all versions of Windows. 

I think the discussion was fruitful in that (well I hope) MYOB listened... and undoubtedly, they have spoken to other old users with similar experiences and I think the gist of this whole experience is that MYOB's answer is probably ' watch for announcements'  i.e. I think MYOB are working on a solution - not a roll back of AR SE - that isn't possible but a forward on-going solution that will be a hybrid solution. 

So, to answer your question - watch this space!

Thanks so much for your insight.  Unfortunately it's hard to stop clients from upgrading as staff think that's what they need to do.  What do we need to do from all of our ends to ensure MYOB keeps on this project.  It is a must to have especially when dealing w reporting, tax etc.

Unfortunately, once a file moves on to 2026.6 SE AR cannot open it and hence you cannot backup to your local file. 

It happened to me and I had to download the PC AR version on my server as an .exe and install this - the msi version isn't available which is needed to do an ALLUSER install on a terminal server.

But SE AR 2026.5 will open any file online that is still 2026.5 but it seems that files are being upgraded quickly and without permission to 2026.6 rendering them unavailable with AR SE.

Until MYOB come up with a solution on the ability to backup locally and open locally as before we are now up a creek without a paddle - however, I do know that MYOB are looking for a solution after finally coming to the party and admitting a need remains for offline backup and opening.

I wish I had time to work my own solution but I just do not.

Hi The Doc - you're an experienced champion w this program for years.  I did your SE hack to enable offline backups.  It has been working beautifully!!!  I still have the same path change back to .10015 but after last weeks update, when I enter via the SE with this it is still asking me to go to 2026.6.  Any suggestions for me.  Your time is sincerely appreciated.  If I ever meet you, I owe you one, two, three drinks.  Thanks NapoleonGC
