If you are in the know, you would know that lots of users have suffered through this problem ever since automatic upgrades started.... It has something to do with the database being a different version than the program and something happens to the ability to download to excel.
We have a server where the database is and we all have Accountright on our individual computers. Individuals are unable to upgrade the database on the server and only our IT person can.
Offer me a solution (to help others on the forum) to solve this problem once and for all!!

Without knowing your reason for the IT setup it is difficult to give you a definative answer.
And unfortunately - staff requirements often are secondary to the IT requirement.
I am a little confused regarding your connection to EXCEL of this problem.
Your ability to export from AR to EXCEL is a local problem - i.e. a user opening AR (say 2021.8) on their PC and the file they are opening resides on a server (and the AR file on the server is in 2021.8 format) then you will be able to open that file - and if EXCEL is installed on your local machine - export a report to EXCEL.
If overnight your local PC AR upgrades itself to 2022.1 (as it will if it is the PC version) then when you come in the morning and try to open the MYOB file on the server (which is in 2021.8 format) it will not be able to - if you are an administrator it will simply say - file is in 2021.8 format do you want to upgrade it to 2022.1 - yes - it upgrades (this is exactly what happens in the cloud)
The SERVER install of AR - will still be on 2021.8 but the server version isn't OPENING MYOB - it is only on the server to serve the file to you to open - I assume it doesn't need to be 2022.1 to do that
However, until you are able to open AR - EXCEL isn't part of the picture.
I need to check that minor point!
However, some suggestions
1. A simple solution which would solve the problem instantly is to place your main operating file form its local storage on the server into the MYOB cloud - you no longer need the server - you did not say why you are running your file locally.
2. If you must have the file locally - install the AR SE on all your PC - it will run perfectly on your PC - then they will not auto-update and you can decide when to call the IT guy in to update all in an orderly fashion. (if you run a local file - you don't need to update it as regularly as MYOB does - only if you are in the cloud as they force you to
3. The AR file doesn't need to be on the server - it could easily be on a powerful desktop or laptop - however, if you do that, that machine needs to run the AR SE version so everyone can see the file.
4. Run the server as a Terminal Server for MYOB - you then only need 1 install of AR - the version on the server - and it will not auto update.
There are numerous scenarios - and each environment is different.
Either I have confused you or helped you - SERVER/PC configurations when you are running MYOB AccountRight is very different when a file is stored locally vs in the cloud.

Yes, I am confused (I am a user not an IT person). The solution appears to be to go to the cloud, but we do not want to use the cloud. MYOB needs to accommodate long time users (as well) using more traditional setups. I think, from memory, using a server was a fix to combat the slowness of MYOB when there was more than 1 user.
Anyway, lets just say that this problem is not going away...

We may be experiencing the same error when MYOB has upgraded.
The error message indicates MYOB can't find the Excel template to export via and responds with an Error popup with a path, e.g. C:\Users\Public\Documents\MYOB\AccountRight\2022.4\Reports\Spreadsheet\SALITMD.XLT
Thats where its looking for the templates, and sadly, MYOB has either deleted them or not put them there.
Why? I'm not speculating as to how the upgrade process works, or doesn't.
We find that the templates live in:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\MYOB\AccountRight\Current\Reports\Spreadsheet
So we will copy the templates from the latter to the former location and export to Excel now works.
Yes, probably not the correct templates, but its a workaround!!!
