That does sound a bit tricky. Nothing worse than having to wait around when you've got a bunch to get through. The good news is there's a quick little trick that usually helps speed things up. Try clearing your AccountRight cache. It's basically like giving your file a mini refresh. Once that's done, reopen your file and see if the In Tray behaves a bit snappier.
