PDF Size Difference when send to disk vs send to email
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone has come across this before.
I'm using MYOB AccountRight Premier AU 2026.5.0 and have recently redesigned all of our customised forms (Quotes, Invoices and Purchase Orders).
I'm experiencing a strange issue where "Send to Disk" creates PDFs over 4MB, however "Send to Email" creates a PDF of around 800KB from exactly the same document.
I've done quite a bit of testing:
- Same computer
- Same MYOB version
- Same document
- Same customised form
- Same data
Results:
- Send to Disk - approx. 4.5MB PDF
- Send to Email - approx. 800KB PDF
I've also tried the following:
- Removed all logos/images from the form.
- Removed the entire footer.
- Removed the header.
- Removed totals sections.
- Created an almost blank version of the form.
The PDF generated via Send to Disk remains around 4MB+ regardless of what is removed.
Interestingly:
- An older customised form in the same MYOB installation exports to a much smaller PDF using Send to Disk.
- If I import my new customised form into the old company file, it still creates a large PDF using Send to Disk, but remains small using Send to Email.
This makes me think the issue is something about the way the new form has been constructed rather than the company file itself.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Specifically I'm wondering:
- Is there a known limitation with certain form objects or layouts that causes Send to Disk to produce oversized PDFs?
- Does Send to Disk use a different PDF engine to Send to Email?
- Is there any way to reduce the PDF size when using Send to Disk, as my staff are accustomed to using this workflow?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
I figured it out - I had emoji's in the header and footer, causing the large file size.
