Amend EOY STP finalisation 23-24

Hi

Hope someone can assist with this issue?  We have an employee that was incorrectly paid in the 23-24 financial year due to a payroll category being setup incorrectly.  The amounts paid were allocated to her through an allowance category but were for reimbursements.  We have contacted MYOB support who advised that amending an EOY STP finalisation through the software can only be performed for the current and prior years and any amendments earlier than 24-25 are to be submitted through the ATO by "ATO forms".

We have also spoken to the ATO and they advised, after checking with their compliance and legal departments, that there is no avenue to amend prior years that have been reported through STP and that MYOB is legally to provide access to this function through the software for the previous 5 years.

 

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated??

    Thank you for your response.  

     

    I had spoken to the ATO over 3 occasions in regard to this matter and had advised of the limitations in regard to the MYOB STP reporting for historical years.  I received the response as mentioned in my post as the only option.  Not sure where to go from here as the ATO are adamant the STP finalisations are all to be processed through the software.

    Reaching out to both MYOB support and ATO for this past financial year's amendment is certainly the right call.

    Just to be upfront about what the software can do today: MYOB can only send or amend STP events for the current payroll year and the immediately prior year. There isn’t a way in AccountRight to reopen or re-lodge STP for 2023–24 or earlier, and there’s no switch we can turn on to make a 5-year window available; that option simply doesn’t exist in the product.

    Because of that, any correction to your employee’s 2023–24 income statement now has to be handled directly by the ATO, not via another STP event from MYOB. When you speak with them, it can help to:

    • Explain that MYOB software only supports STP amendments for the current + 1 prior year,
    • Provide your MYOB payroll reports showing the amounts that should have been treated as reimbursements, and
    • Ask their STP/employer reporting team what correction path they want used for that older year.

    I have a similar issue. Need to submit an STP finalisation for the 23/24 year. I also have spoken with ATO and given them the same information that you have provided and received the same response as LizS288. The ATO simply had no idea how else to do the finalisation and I was transferred to several different staff members at various levels and various departments. If you have a contact at the ATO that knows what you're talking about, we'd love for you to pass this on.
    In the meantime, I am signing up for an alternative Payroll provider who can do this.
