How much overreach does MYOB want.  The drama with the Sales invoices, now this.  

Staple super funds are only required if the employee doesn't give you one.

There is no way that I will be telling my clients to give Flare access to the business through ATO Access Manager.  The business owner and their BAS/Tax Agent can request the stapled fund.  

Plus, I have not had an employee for the last 5 years that did not advise of their super fund.

This again, is a massive overreach by MYOB.  Most employers will go back to giving their employees an employment pack to manually fill out.

Funny, I haven't got a request like this from Employment Hero or any other payroll/HR programs.

I am writing to express my shared concern regarding this new requirement. Given the lack of an official rollout, please confirm when informational updates and sessions will be provided to users. Furthermore, I request immediate clarification on the following points: the associated costs, the specific parties granted access to our employee data, and how this alignment complies with privacy regulations. Lastly, please clarify why organizations cannot audit or look up these stapled funds directly.

I was wondering too so found the following on the ATO portal it says you're only required to check for a stapled fund in your new employee doesn't nominate their own super fund on an ATO standard choice form

If you have processed at least one payroll, which includes the employee, that has not provided details, the steps are as follows:

Log into your ATO portal > access your client/self > Business > employee super accounts > enter employee details, TFN, date of birth, address and request. All this is under the Business Header where the STP reporting etc.

Please remember to include in your employee engagement letters that your default fund or stapled fund look up will be used if the information is not provided.

Stapled fund lookups are becoming a compulsory act for a business to attempt when providing digital onboarding. This comes into effect 1 July 2026. 

Flare is an MYOB owned business that powers onboarding for your MYOB clients. Flare will need to be authorised in the ATO Access Manager in order to attempt the stapled fund look up. If authorisation is not provided, businesses will need to perform a manual stapled fund look up which may increase the risk of payment delay for newly onboarded employees. 

The business’ Principal Authority/Authorised Administrator can do this easily in the ATO Access Manager. Check out our support article for more information. Hope this clarifies things, feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

I totally agree. We have been using MYOB for over 20 years, but if they keep on this path, we will be looking for something else. They used to offer services and give you a choice, but now they push you down a path that may not suit your business.

From 1 July 2026, employers must attempt a stapled fund lookup where a new employee does not nominate a super fund. 
 
You can complete this: 
- manually via the ATO, or 
- by authorising Flare to handle it as part of onboarding 
 
Flare is optional. If you don’t authorise it, you can continue to manage this manually.
