I am brand-new to paying super to contractors, and am still lost on where to start. I've set up Superstream, but I am stuck on what's next, particularly regarding the set-up in MYOB and the classification of contractors. It seems that no progress has been made since this post was published a year ago. ?
I might be wrong, but is the label Labour Hire being misinterpreted in the original post above? I read the label as a position, their labour is being hired out, but the authors mention of "as this contractor is not through labour hire" seems to imply that the contractor was not found through a labour hire company, so therefore the label does not apply.
Another comment made elsewhere is: "As stated previously this is not correct as an independent contractor is NOT Labour Hire."
I engaged a lawyer to better understand my obligations (as all info everywhere else was gray and ambiguous), and was advised that all VAs such as myself are essentially trading skill for money and therefore considered an employee for super purposes.
I would appreciate the clarification of the use of the terms above for my own information and better understanding. Despite my efforts, this doesn't seem to be getting any simpler!
