Questions regarding processing return of super contributions

Hello,

I have a few questions regarding this guide for returned supers:

https://www.myob.com/au/support/myob-business/payroll/superannuation/returned-superannuation-contributions

For step 2.3, does the 'pay period start' and 'pay period end' need to match the dates of the pay run that the super contribution was initially tied to and the 'date of payment' is the date the super was returned?

For step 2.7, my employee salary sacrifices $100 into their super. Do I record $-100 in the salary sacrifice super field? If I do, the net pay becomes $100 and according to the guide net pay should be $0.

I assume the dates for step 3.3 need to match step 2.3?

Thanks for the assistance.

  • Hey RaniRWH

For step 2.3, you'll want to use the same dates as the employee's original pay. For the date of payment, use the date the super contribution was returned.

    For step 2.7:

    • enter the superannuation guarantee amount as a negative amount against the Superannuation Guarantee pay item
    • enter the salary sacrifice amount as a negative amount against the Salary Sacrifice deduction pay item, and
    • enter the salary sacrifice amount as a negative amount against the employees Base Salary or Base Hourly wage pay item. These amounts negate each other so the net pay stays at $0.

You are correct in saying the dates in step 3.3 need to match up with 2.3.

We've updated this help article about managing returned super contributions that included salary sacrifice super, you'll want to scroll down to the bottom FAQ's for more information. Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you have any further questions!
