Re: MYOB desktop version

Hi mistyben, in fairness, I feel that I have tried to give an explanation in simple terms twice now.
I can say that MYOB is not, as a blanket rule, making desktop files read only - this is important for all customers who may read our conversation to understand.
But MYOB is discontinuing the CAP and Bookkeeper assets, so if you do not move your files from these assets, they will become read only. This is a consequence of discontinuing the assets, and not a decision regarding the access of 'desktop' files.
Therefore you would need to import your files into a V19 asset in order to continue using them, OR you can upgrade into the new partner asset.
Your partner manager is best equipped to have this conversation with you and answer any question you have.

Hi gavin12345 and mistyben, thanks for collaborating with me to clarify this.
I'm sorry for the assumption that the 'CAP and Bookkeeper' asset was generally known to the partner community - this is my mistake.

Gavin has nailed it with this summary though
"the CAP issued software (or asset) will no longer confirm, however the generally issued v19 'asset' will confirm."
I confirm that this is the case :)

    Hi mistyben,

The CAP asset stands for 'Client Accounting Practice' software
For yourself, the SN ending in 6920 is our 'MYOB Bookkeepers reference software'
These are both available only to our SME Partners who are either Accountants or Bookkeepers.

The V19 asset/software was available to any MYOB customer whether they were a Partner or a business owner.
Whereas the CAP and Bookkeeper assets were only available to Partners.

    Hi Mike_MYOB

While these terms might be clear to you, they are not to the average reader. What exactly do you mean by a CAP or Bookkeeper 'Asset'.  What exactly do you mean by 'import your files into a V19 asset'?

I have a reasonable knowledge of the MYOB software. Are you saying that the software a CAP user uses is different to the v19 software? So if mistyben  can open a company file in say MYOB Plus v19.16 from the downloads page, then she is using a v19 asset and will not have any issue confirming the files going forward?

    Regards

    Gavin

    Thanks Gavin

You've addressed my confusion completely - but why do I have to open  MYOB Plus v19.16 from the downloads page - when the program has always been on my laptop and the data files have never been uploaded

    Hi mistyben

This is what I was hoping Mike_MYOB could clarify. It is possible that the software that comes on a CAP disc is different in terms of confirmation to the software avaliable to regular users (from downloads page). If this is the case, then this could explain what Mike_MYOB means - the CAP issued software (or asset) will no longer confirm, however the generally issued v19 'asset' will confirm.

    Wait for response by Mike_MYOB

    Regards

    Gavin

    Hi Mike

thanks for getting back to me and gavin12345

Apologies for seeming dense, but would you please explain the difference between  'CAP and Bookkeeper' asset

and generally issued v19 'asset'   and to which does my serial number ending in 6920 apply

Also please advise what does CAP actually stand for
