Part 2: Announcing Changes to our Ideas Exchange

Hey everyone!

We announced that we're starting a new Ideas Exchange on the Community Forum a few weeks ago. You can find the post here if you missed it!

As we get closer to the launch of our new Ideas Exchange, the current instance for MYOB Business and AccountRight has now been set to read-only mode for the next two weeks. During this time, you’ll be able to view existing posts, you will not be able to vote and comment on them. This has been done so that we can move your insights to our product teams before we go live with the brand new one!

November 12th will see our brand new Ideas Exchange for MYOB Business and AccountRight go live!

Once this goes live, the old Ideas Exchange will no longer be visible on the Forum.

You can expect to see 30-50 of the top trending ideas that have been posted and voted on by our community members over the years to be reposted on the new one. Just because we're starting fresh doesn't mean we're forgetting it all!

We've been working hard to ensure we can formalise a strong product feedback loop between this community and our product teams once we go live with the new Ideas exchange. This ensures that your feedback, ideas, votes and comments are all considered by our product and development teams.

Super excited to see you all there!

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Cheers, Amanda.

It sounds like anything that's not currently trending (because people can't find it?) won't be carried over, and we'll lose all the history of comments and suggestions that show we've been (im)patiently waiting for over a decade for some of these items. A significant number of the ideas aren't even new ideas, they're purely requests to fix things that used to work and no longer do, or to bring back features that simply disappeared out of the system overnight during a so-called 'update'. I'm all for change, especially when things are obviously not working, but to pretty much delete all those requests and make us start from scratch? That's just rude.
Is there a way I can export all the ideas I've suggested or commented on (as different users from past employers as well as this profile) so I can recreate them myself (if I have a spare 1000 hours)?

Cynical me thinks this is a convenient way for you to hide the long-term requests that have been ignored from any new customers you manage to drag away from your competitors.

Here's my new suggestion for today - the one I was already worked up about before I even saw this post:

Stop sending our internal accounts data to our customers without our knowledge! Such a huge breach of our privacy (which I've reported several times already to no avail).
    1. Allow us to turn off the option for other MYOB users (our customers) to link their files to our MYOB file. Allowing them to do this without even notifying us that they have, gives them access to our internal breakdowns by ledger code instead of the lump sum price we've quoted and invoiced. Sure, you claim it's to make it convenient for your customers, but we are also your customers and we do not want them to do this.

    2. Using the send from MYOB emailing option, also does this if they click on the link to the invoice instead of the attached PDF.

    3. And today, we've discovered we've been unknowingly sending clients our internal notes and breakdowns ever since we activated the online payments service, after you finally (thankfully) allowed us to exclude bpay as a payment option.

I've turned off the online payments now until you provide an option to remove the 'invoice summary' section from the cover email that goes out with the invoice but the convenience of sending emails from within accountright still (marginally) outweighs your breach of our privacy, otherwise we'd be having emails sent from too many different email addresses and no central place for replies to be collated. It also means we don't have payslips sitting in someone's outlook sent folder.

How will you be ensuring that the 1000s of other ideas, not in the 30-50 trending list, aren't being forgotten?

      Hey H-TS

We’ve put a lot of thought into the history of comments and suggestions in our current Ideas Exchange, particularly with AccountRight, which has been around for 13 years. As you mentioned, we have many ideas that haven’t received updates but are still consistently requested by our community.
In preparation to re-ignite the Ideas Exchange, we’ve had to find a balance between preserving valuable ideas and ensuring a fresh, engaging experience for all users. For example, seeing ideas with hundreds of votes and comments that remain open without updates for over 10+ years can discourage new users from engaging. With a stronger feedback loop now in place, our goal is to create an Ideas Exchange that’s more engaging and responsive for everyone.
To identify the top 30-50 ideas, we reviewed every open idea on the forum over the past three months, consolidating duplicate posts and tallying votes and comments to prioritise ideas with the highest community engagement. I was able to work with our product teams to review these to determine which ones are feasible, which could be in future plans, and which we, unfortunately, won’t pursue. We’re committed to transparency, so we’ll be posting ideas that won’t proceed to provide closure to customers who have been waiting to hear back from us.
While some ideas may not carry over, if they’re still relevant, we’re confident they’ll be reposted, gather fresh engagement, and prove their value to our product teams. Our improved feedback loop ensures that your input, votes, and suggestions are seen by our teams, shaping future priorities.

In regards to your feedback about Online Payments, the option to remove the "Invoice Summary" section isn't currently possible, however it's definitely something we can explore further. I'll make sure to bring this idea forwards into our new Ideas Exchange for other users to vote and add weight to as well.

Maybe you could have gone through and provided a final closing comment on all the old ones before shutting it down. Even a "sorry, not a chance" is better than being ignored. Not sure it's better than "it's coming this September, oh no, wait, we've changed our mind" (emailing receipts ring any bells????).

I acknowledge you're trying to improve this with these changes, and I appreciate that. However, simply closing them off/deleting them with no resolution feels like all our posts and comments on the other non-trending items have been deemed worthless. That doesn't really encourage me to continue trying to contribute to the ideas exchange.

Will the ones being carried over still show that they were first requested 10-15 years ago, or will that fact be hidden from your new users too?

  • I wish I had worked harder to "For example, seeing ideas with hundreds of votes and comments that remain open without updates for over 10+ years can discourage new users from engaging." when making the decision to sign up.

  • Why cant MYOB attach invoices as PDF's when sending emails. I have just started using this feature last 2 months which works well except for this issue that many of our customers keep bringing up i.e Invoice as PDF attachment not just a link. Another email I received today from a customer

    Hi team!

It has come to my attention that when you are sending invoices to our invoice inbox, our system is not picking them up. This is because you are using Myob which gets sent as a link and not as an attachment.

Unfortunately, our system only picks up attachments.

So, is there any way when sending us invoices from now on you could make the invoice a PDF attachment?

If your system does not work like that, please send all invoices to me directly so I can ensure we receive them.

    Thank you.

Defeats the purpose of emailing. I get this also "our Xero system does it, why cant MYOB". Seems your software development team is very limited. Having worked in the software industry a good programmer could include this feature, test it and roll it out in 2 months easily. Is this request also wishful thinking?

SMurrWhich version of the software are you using? In our desktop version of AccountRight we have the option to either attach or not attach. Our invoices go out with the PDF attachment. We still have a few customers whose systems can't handle the myob invoices. We have to send them to ourselves then forward from outlook after deleting the link in the email. (Sorry I don't know if this is available in other versions.)

      • Hi H-TS, Thanks for replying to my gripe. You are right, this feature is available and I have just used it and it works, so I take it back about the development team. Not sure if this is a recent addition or if its been available a while because some support staff do not know this option is available or they did not understand my enquiry 2 months ago. I was advised that this feature is currently not available, see transcript:

"ok so it seems that it is a limitation, is that right?
        9:38 AM
Yes, it's a product limitation. As the there on to feature in MYOB the feature that you are looking for. We encourage you to post your comments in our AccountRight Ideas Exchange https://community.myob.com/category/accountright/ideas/accountrightideas  for our developers' review and consideration. Your input will be invaluable in helping us make the necessary adjustments and enhancements to our software."

Anyway thanks HTS again for your help, much appreciated, regards.

Yeah, this summary on one of the ideas I'd voted on previously doesn't discourage me at all...
"This idea was originally posted 12 years ago with a total of 660 votes and 386 comments."

I can't even remember all the suggestions I voted and commented on that I'd still be keen to see implemented.

And yet, somehow a suggestion that "was posted 2 years ago with a total of 4 votes and 1 comment" managed to make the cut for the 50 trending ideas that were carried over?

    I give up.
