Offline backups - why have they stopped?

I use AccountRight mostly on desktop with an ONLINE file.  Software has automatically updated to 2026.5.  The notes on Backing up and restoring still note that there is an option to enable offline backups for ONLINE files.  However with the update this option has gone.  WHY?? I want to have an offline backup of my MYOB file as a record of a point in time.  Especially when BAS is lodged and EOFY.  There has been no mention of this option going as part of pushing everyone to have ONLINE files.

MYOB please advise ASAP

true, we have same need for offline file for audit requirment.

  • I also am not happy with MYOB with not being able to do OFFLINE BACKUPS, why do you keep changing the program when it works for your clients, do you ever ask us for our feed back, I also didnt want the QR code on my invoices, we pay enough money for the subscription cant you just leave things as they are

Hi Amanda - have discovered another issue regarding not being able to make offline backups.  MYOB only gives me entitlement balance information for staff for last financial year and current financial year.  If I am doing a final pay and I need to work out if staff have taken LSL when determining their final LSL payout how am I supposed to get this information if my current online file doesn't have it and I don't have an offline back to be able to restore to find the information.

Again it would be good to know if MYOB are taking on board the many complaints being raised.

Keeping an offline backup is just good record keeping - no point having online files only with no backup in case of emergencies no matter how good MYOB says it backups are!

    Hey jge

Thanks for raising this, I will forward it to the team and make sure that it reflects what is available in the product.

We originally announced the changes to MYOB AccountRight offline mode a month ago, you can find the full post here for more information. Emails also would've been sent to any users that would be impacted by this change in advance to avoid any confusion and allow for preparation.

Please reach out if you have any further questions.

The option is no longer there because offline backups is no longer an available option in MYOB AccountRight. From 17 June 2026, MYOB AccountRight desktop app (PC edition) will only work with company files stored online. Offline mode will no longer be available, and from version 2026.5 (PC edition) you’ll no longer be able to open, edit or save files stored locally (in My Library or Network Library).
*You'll still be able to view offline backups in previous AccountRight versions for audit requirements

AccountRight desktop isn’t going anywhere. The only change is that your company file will need to be online to receive product and security updates, support, and online services.

Hi jge Veejays janeengero WTF12 MYOB_LT_User

For anyone needing a separate copy of MYOB records for audit, BAS, EOFY, migration, or point-in-time record keeping, MyDataXport may help.

It does not reinstate MYOB’s offline backup function and it does not create a MYOB restore file. MYOB would still remain the live accounting system.

What MyDataXport does is export MYOB data and attachments into cloud storage controlled by the business, such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox.

That gives users an independent archive outside MYOB, which can be useful where you need to retain records separately from the live MYOB file or MYOB’s own online backup process.

Disclosure: I’m connected with MyDataXport. It is listed on the MYOB App Marketplace here:

  • This one caught us out too, we only noticed when the option was just gone after the update. Since the status here says Closed I don't think they're bringing it back, so a mate and I have started building a replacement ourselves. It connects read only through the official MYOB API and copies the whole file out (ledger, sales, purchases, payroll, all the attachments) into your own Google Drive or OneDrive or Dropbox, either on a schedule or as a one off snapshot at EOFY or BAS time. Have to be honest about one thing, it can't create a proper .myox you could restore, MYOB doesn't allow third party apps to do that. What you get is a complete copy in Excel/CSV that you can keep independently and hand to an auditor. Waitlist is at covlens.com/ledgervault if it's any use to anyone here. Would also like to hear what your auditors actually ask for at year end, we're still working out exactly what goes in the archive. And to be clear this is our own thing, nothing to do with MYOB.
