Back up zip file

Our back up zip file has a password (no idea how).  I need to unzip the file so MYOB can reload it into a new subscription.  How can I do this when the 'extract all' option does not work as an error code come up rather than a prompt to enter a password.  Google wants me to download all sorts of 'free' hacker downloader tools which i would rather not.

The file was backed up from a read only account if that makes a difference.

    Hi rquad3

If your backup file has a password, it can only be opened using that password set when the backup file was created. It would be best to reach out to the IT personnel to see if they have a way to remove zip passwords or try recovering the zip file password.

  • Hi rquad3

If you are not being prompted for a password, then this is not the cause of the error. Nor is the fact that the account was read-only.  The most likely cause is that the zip is corrupt. Utilities are unlikely to work. Best suggestion would be to access the read-only account and create a new backup. Or ask MYOB to retrieve a backup.

I know this was from 9 months ago but I just recently had the same problem.

I was able to crack the zip password with 1234

I have no idea where the password came from, as the zipped MYOB back up file originated from MYOB online.

As for a corrupt zip file, that's just nonsense.

Make sure you use WinZip or WinRAR, as these programs throw up a password dialogue box upon initialising the extraction.

The built-in zip extractor in Windows 11 just won't extract and doesn't offer a password dialogue box.

A 50 minute wait for a 5 minute talk to MYOB tech support revealed nothing. "We don't insert passwords when zipping files for you to download". "You must've put the password in it"

Anyway, after about 8-10 days of churning with Kraken v1.5 I had a password!!!

Such a relief, with no help from anyone.

So rquad3, if you are still locked out try 1234.
