End company file & start a new one

A partnership I manage on MYOB has dissolved and another partnership has been set up in its place. I need to end the original MYOB file and start a new one for the new partnership. How do I make the old myob file inactive or read only so my subscription can move to the new partnership and I can commence setting up the MYOB file? I have asked the question in my.myob, but I have not had a response. TIA.

    Hi AOman

Creating a new file and starting the partnership from there certainly is the cleanest way to go about the transition.

You can’t delete the old file, but we can switch off the online subscription for it so it becomes read‑only, and you can re‑use the entitlement on the new file.

    Best way to do it:

    1. Back up the old file for your records.
    2. Set up the new partnership in a fresh file (steps here):
       https://www.myob.com/au/support/myob-business/get-started/welcome-to-myob-business/create-a-company-file
    3. Then, as the primary/billing contact, jump into My Account and create a ticket or get in touch via our live chat team through MOCA, our virtual assistant.

That’ll give you a clean break between the old and new partnership without paying for an extra file.

    Regards,
    Genreve
