Additional superannuation payment

My company wishes to pay a lump sum superannuation payment to the employees.  This is a one off payment and not part of their usual pays.  My question is - does this go through payroll or put through as an expense to the company?

    Hi JackieW1,

That’s a great question. Since this is a one-off and not part of regular wages, how it’s processed can depend on a few things, like the purpose of the payment and how you want it reported. It can be put through payroll using a super category (so it’s tracked properly for reporting), but in some cases businesses choose to record it directly as a company expense.

Because every setup’s a little different, it’s definitely a good idea to have a quick chat with your accountant – they'll know exactly how to handle it for your situation.

    Regards,
