Pay Superannuation no TFN

We had a temporary short-term employee who did not provide a TFN or superannuation details and has now left. I've tried contacting him with no success and the ATO stapled fund provided no match. This means we can pay the super to our default fund, however, pay superannuation won't process the super without a valid TFN. I don't imagine the ATO will give us (the employer) an employee's TFN due to privacy so how can we possibly submit the super to meet our obligations?

    Hi MAJackie,

    Thank you for your post.

The Pay Super function does require a TFN for contributions to be processed, however, in your case you may be able to substitute the TFN with one of the numbers listed on the ATO's Section A: Payee details page.

If you were still unsure, I would recommend speaking with the ATO on what TFN should be used, or if you could possibly use the ATO Clearing house to submit that payment.
