The system calculates the pay rate by taking the total amount to be paid and dividing it by the number of hours entered. If the result lands with three or more decimal places, it gets rounded to two decimal places a neat figure for cents.
Rounding in payroll is where you might notice a tiny difference say, a cent or two depending on the employee’s normal pay rate. The way the rounding plays out can vary based on what their rate is. For example, someone on a higher hourly rate might see rounding behaving slightly differently compared to someone on a lower rate. It's all about math doing its thing, but the system ensures things stay as accurate as possible within those bounds.
