Business has been sold....now what

Hi

We sold our business back in April 2026.  We are awaiting the accountant to finalise the last bits, which may go into next financial year.

We are disappointed we can no longer have the file offline, and that causes us issues re keeping records for 5 years.

We dont want to keep paying the $165 per month either. As we are not using it to run the business anymore, just for finalisation purposes. Is there another option?

Can you please advise the process.

    Hi ActiveMR,

Thanks for explaining. I’m sorry to hear that keeping the file online is causing issues, especially when you’re only waiting for your accountant to finish up and don’t want to keep paying $165 a month. If you’re using AccountRight and still have a backup of your file, you can open it in an earlier version of AccountRight in read-only mode for auditing purposes. If you’re using MYOB Business, you can still use reports you exported before cancelling. However, once your subscription has been cancelled for 90 days, you won’t be able to reopen the business in MYOB Business, and it will no longer be available there.

Before cancelling, make sure you’ve saved the records and reports you’ll need for the five-year retention period.

    Regards,

    Sai

  • Hi Isaiah_C

Can you explain how I get a copy of our back up, and how to get older version of the software?

These are the things that have been changed this year, and our copy of Account Right is updated to 2026.9

Yes, it would have been ok in previous versions 'working offline' that would have be ok.  But this isnt the case anymore.

Do you have a support page on what records, reports to save, so nothing is missed.  Would have been so much easier to have an offline file.

    Hi ActiveMR,

Keeping your records handy shouldn’t feel like another job on the to-do list. Online backups can’t be downloaded, and installing an older version only helps with an offline backup you already have. While your accountant finishes the last bits, you can reach out to our support team via Contact Us page. Let the team know you’re on 2026.9, still need access for your accountant’s final work, and want to discuss options for keeping your records accessible afterwards. They can review your situation and explain the available options before you make any changes to your subscription.

    Cheers,

    Doreen
