I would like to see a bit more information around what qualifies as inactive.

If MYOB is open but I am say, working in excel, so there is typing and mouse movement going on...am I active?

Or do I literally have to be typing things in the MYOB software for it to count.  It's really not clear from the little information that has been provided.

We have about 10 MYOB files and switch between them all day long. This is going to be very painful and inefficient. It is already annoying when we open multiple files that we have to log in to every single file, but logging us out due to inactivity will make using MYOB much harder. Surely you can find a more efficient way of enhancing security, if you have to lock the files, then maybe users can set up a pin or something but having to type my email address, password and the 2FA code for 10 files is going to be very frustrating.

Hi sari85 , you shouldn't need to login again or do 2FA when changing between files. If you are, it may be to do with the way you are switching.

      For Desktop
When switching between files, it is best to go to the top menu and go to file > open. Then you can navigate between files without having to do 2FA or re-login
      For Browser
When switching between files, click on the business name on the top right of the screen, then click 'switch business'. Also will not require 2FA or login again.

If/when you do experience an inactivity logout however, you will need to re-enter your email and password. But you will not required to complete 2FA.

Hi MikeG1 - We use the Desktop version and yes, if I go to the top menu, file option I can switch without logging in. However, we require multiple files (most of the time all of the files) to be open simultaneously as we continously switch between them. Therefore, I usually right click on MYOB sitting on the task bar and this way, we now have to enter both email and password and multiple times during the day 2FA. Very time-consuming and simply frustrating.

We have the same problem here with multiple files being worked on throughout the day. a pin would be a good solution

  • Wednesday, 27 November - everyone changes their password to "qwerty" 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • Hi InTuneMusic , thanks for the feedback, we are monitoring the change closely. I appreciate you understand its an ATO requirement but still note the impact this has to our customers.

SDuddy it is inactivity 'in the product'. So if you were in Excel and not in the MYOB software it would still count as inactive.

I also really hope this isn't a way to lower MYOB Bandwidth usage by kicking inactive users.

The amount of spinning blue wheels of death we have to wait through every day is rage inducing.

  • When timed out and need to log back in, does the 2FA still occur?

Hi Rob_A , no 2FA, it will only be your email and password to log back in.
The only scenario where the 2 crossover would be if you left your MYOB software open overnight, then first thing the next day when you access the software after 'inactivity' you would need to do both 2FA and email/password.
      Cheers, Mike

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I do think that 20 - 30 is a little restrictive. I believe Xero has a time out of 60 minutes which would be more acceptable.

  • Tooooo much! Spending more time logging in and out rather than working, they speed it up, and then they SLOW IT DOWN
