Restore offline backup support for AccountRight.

For many long-term MYOB users, the removal of independent local backups represents a significant step backwards in business continuity and disaster recovery.

This request is not about replacing the cloud. Most of us recognise and appreciate the benefits of cloud-based company files. Rather, it is about maintaining the ability for businesses to create and retain their own independent backup copies.

Industry best practice has always been to avoid relying on a single source for critical business data. Customer-controlled backups are a fundamental part of that strategy. Major cloud platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive and Dropbox all continue to provide offline synchronisation because resilience comes from having more than one copy of important data.

An independent MYOX backup provides businesses with confidence that they can recover quickly from unexpected events, whether those involve service outages, account access issues, accidental data changes, or other unforeseen circumstances.

My request is simple:

  • Restore the ability for all AccountRight editions to create and restore independent MYOX backup files.
  • Allow customers to determine their own backup and disaster recovery strategy rather than relying solely on MYOB-managed copies.
  • Continue supporting cloud company files while recognising that independent backups remain an important business requirement for many organisations.

This isn’t a request to move backwards. It’s a request to preserve a long-standing capability that has helped businesses protect their financial data for decades.

If you also believe customers should have the choice to maintain independent backups of their own accounting data, please vote for this idea.

    In my workplace we find backups are very useful to find where there has been a change in GST figures from the last BAS months lodgement. Please consider enabling backups being able to be restored without overriding the current file in use.

    Completely a disaster!  What are we supposed to use if the internet is down?? We could lose clients on this decision and so could MYOB!!  I know of many who is considering leaving MYOB because of this. It is for many the reason we have stayed loyal to MYOB because some others had this cloud-only policy!

    Also we were told we could use the Server version, but how do we get the current file into this??

    PLEASE PLEASE Bring offline and restore  back!

  • I am angry. I have just found I cant backup my data files to my own computer. I cannot accept the removal of users ability to backup independently of MYOB. These data files are mission critical. Please reinstate this backup feature as soon as possible.

    My concern is not only about temporary access to MYOB during an outage. It is about what would happen if MYOB suffered a major system failure, cyberattack or data corruption event and some or all of our company data could not be recovered.

    If customers are no longer permitted to create and retain their own complete, independently restorable backups, where does responsibility lie if MYOB’s managed copies also fail?

    Would MYOB accept liability for the cost of reconstructing lost accounting, payroll, customer, supplier and transaction records? Or would customers still be told that they were responsible for maintaining their own records, despite MYOB having removed the practical means of maintaining a complete backup?

    This appears to create a serious gap in business continuity and disaster recovery. Businesses should not have to rely on a single provider and a single backup environment for critical financial records.

    Even the best cloud systems can experience outages, cyberattacks, account-access problems, accidental deletion or data corruption. An independent backup is not a rejection of cloud technology—it is an additional layer of protection.

    MYOB should clearly explain:

    • what recovery guarantees apply if its systems are compromised or data is lost;
    • how long backups are retained and whether customers can request restoration from specific dates;
    • what liability MYOB accepts if customer data cannot be recovered; and
    • how businesses are expected to meet their record-retention and disaster-recovery responsibilities without access to an independent, restorable MYOX backup.

    Customers should be given the choice to maintain their own backups. Restoring this capability would protect both MYOB and its customers and would bring AccountRight back into line with sensible business-continuity practices.
