Trying to transition to online

Hi,

I spoke to a salesperson/support person about 2 1/2 months ago and arranged an online subscription to transition my offline file to on-line, to fall into line with the new transition date.

I never received the email confirmation with the required links/details as were promised at the conclusion of the sales call - after I gave my direct debit bank details etc.

I have tried to call several times to sort this out and have been left on hold for hours on end which I simply do not have time for - who does?

I have also tried to upload my file online following the instructions given in the hope that perhaps there is a backend connection sorted after my original phone call.  But this seems to not be the case also.

If I am not able to get any support for this issue I will ditch MYOB and move to an alternative provider.

Not impressed at all.

I would love to hear from a support person ASAP.

    Hi Mauzy

Sorry, not sure. I think you would be better to start a new thread for this as your query will get lost in this one.

    Cheers

I'm also trying to transition an additional data file to online. I have used it online for quite a while. I've just paid for a trial subscirption and been given a new Serial Number. Can I just change the SN and upload it?

    Hi HDSA

I expect so but it may be better to download and install the latest version instead. It would be a different version name and once you login with the new shortcut, it should upgrade the file at that point. I haven't tried this but I'm guessing this would be the best solution. Once things settle down with MYOB, you would have a better chance at getting some assistance from support.

    Cheers

Can it conversely be reversed by editing the file name back to its original function if wanting to upload the file on line at a later date?

  • Hi HDSA

MYOB are swamped at the moment and a lot of users are stressed and upset at this change and the poor timing. I just wanted to mention that unless you need online services like payroll and bank feeds, then you can stop your MYOB updating automatically a couple of ways. If you want to keep using offline versions there are two ways to stop upgrades - the first allows you to have multiple versions of MYOB and the second is good for a single version. If you have versions prior to 2021.1, they won't update anyway so nothing needs to be done.

You could choose to use the Server Edition but you can also turn off auto updates for PC versions as per this old post from Gavin12345 which shows how to turn off the auto updates - just substitute the version shown with with the current version you are on. Once you have created a Desktop shortcut for the offline files, you can still use the current Desktop shortcut to access and upgrade your online files:

Unfortunately MYOB are not going to change their policy just because users want them to. Now just as there are ways to stop Windows 10 automatic updates, there are also ways to stop MYOB automatic updates, or at least work around them.

I keep using AR2020.1 even though MYOB has updated itself to AR2021.4

Take a look where MYOB installs itself - in a folder called AccountRight in a path like this:

    C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Programs\MYOB\AccountRight

Inside that folder is another folder called app-2021.300.244119 or similar - this contains the files that run MYOB - AR2021.3.

Copy this folder app-2021.300.244119 and paste under C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Programs\MYOB\ and rename it to AccountRight 2021.3

Delete your desktop shortcut and create a new shortcut to HuxleyApplication.exe inside the new folder.

From this point your shortcut will run AR2021.3 even though MYOB Updates to AR2021.4 or .5 etc

When you are ready to upgrade, repeat the above and create a folder for AccountRight 2021.4 etc and change the shortcut to the next version.

If you only need one version and need to stop updating, then you can use Randon-nuggets method as follows:

A simpler, more surgical method is as follows:

    1. a) Open the folder in which MYOB is installed. Typically this will be in:

    C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Programs\MYOB\AccountRight

    1. b) Inside that folder you will find a program file named Update.exe. Simply rename this program file to, say, "Update-disabled.exe". Voila! No more updates!. When AccountRight is next started, it will fail to find its auto-update program, and then carry on running the software as is.

I have successfully tested this approach since the AR 2026.3 release (PC edition).

    Cheers

    Liz
