I hear what you're saying. It can be tricky when signal isn't always reliable. SMS is the only option because it meets security and compliance requirements by verifying a physical device and adding a second layer of protection for payment authorisations, while also being the simplest option that works across all users without extra setup.

I appreciate that someone has finally said that it is the only option but please be aware that it is not the simplest option for everyone and it does NOT work across all users. I brought this to the attention of Myob in 2023 and have tried getting an answer ever since, all to no avail. Promises to look into it, but no solutions. We run a business on Norfolk Island, part of Australia, but we use an international prefix on our phone numbers. We cannot get SMS verification so therefore we cannot utilise the SMS verification facility. Thousands of dollars in monthly subscription fees for us and our clients but unable to utilise the full suite of features.
