Employment Leave Bill

With the proposed New Employment Leave Bill currently under discussion, I'd be interested to hear where MYOB is from a payroll provider perspective.

Has MYOB started assessing the potential system changes that may be required, and is there any guidance on what payroll teams should be doing now to prepare if the Bill becomes legislation?

It would also be great to hear from other payroll professionals — how are you planning ahead for these potential changes? Are there any key areas you are reviewing or preparing for within your payroll processes and systems?

Any insights, timelines, or recommendations from MYOB and the wider payroll community would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Davidkaran,

Thanks for raising this. It’s great to see you planning ahead for the recent changes in New Zealand. A handy article on the changes is here: Holiday pay changes become law: All you need to know. The main thing to note for now is that there’s a 24-month implementation period before the new system takes effect, so there is still some time for payroll providers and employers to get systems and processes ready.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

    Hi Davidkaran

Fair question; I can see why that's something you are concerned about.

The bill is still progressing, so there’s no confirmed rollout timing to share yet. What we can say is that MYOB is monitoring the changes and assessing the payroll areas they could affect.

That includes leave accruals, pay calculations, public holiday rules, and what support customers may need if the bill passes.

There’s also expected to be a transition period before employers need to comply, so there’s no immediate change customers need to make today.

We can’t share detailed product or release plans just yet, but customer guidance would be expected closer to implementation.

    Regards,

  • Thanks for sharing. I think most of us are already aware of the proposed changes and the general requirements.

What I’m keen to understand is the system capability and configuration side of things. Also given this will potentially impact all NZ clients at the same time, how is MYOB planning for these changes from a product and payroll system perspective?

It would be helpful to understand whether MYOB has started assessing the required system enhancements, configuration changes, testing approach, and any guidance that will be provided to customers ahead of implementation.
