AccountRight no longer doing Super for offline files?

Have spent a quite few hours on the phone with MYOB in the past few days.

We run AccountRight offline, from our own servers, for a number of reasons and do not want to switch to the online offerings.

When lodging the Super for the previous month, we went through the normal process and it gave a generic error "Whoops! It looks like the service is unavailable right now" and would not submit the Super payment.  The service was apparently running though, and we've been through all the normal checks on USI numbers etc to make sure everything is correct.  Nothing has changed since our last lodgement which worked fine.

We spoke with MYOB on the phone who looked at our submitted log files and advised of a file error which would need to be scanned and fixed with one of their tools.   We didn't want to convert our file to online for their 'standard' fix to this problem and the link they sent to the 'offline' version of the tool was broken.  They advised they would upload a new file and send us the link to resolve the issue.

Nothing was received in the promised window, so we waited another day before getting back in touch.

We're now advised that Super payments can ONLY be processed with an online file and that we need to convert to their online system, or convert the file to online every month, lodge the super, then backup the online file and restore our local server with the file backup and delete the online file....

The only alternative option provided was to lodge Super through a 3rd party clearing house direct with the ATO.

We already have to use 3rd party software for STP as MYOB stopped supporting this.  Have they really now also stopped supporting Super lodgement?  Unlike STP, i'm not aware of any announcements or warning that this was happening.

Has anyone else had this issue and have a fix or link to the working offline Super-fix tool MYOB originally said they would provide?  Not thrilled about spending another day on the phone for no resolution...  and I can't believe that accounting software would actually stop supporting both STP AND Super payments... it's becoming fairly useless if that's the case!

Thanks in advance for any ideas or solutions.

    Hey MJPop

Thanks for getting back to me! I've updated a setting on my end and you should be able to respond now. If you click on my profile you should be able to see a Message icon on the bottom right of the header.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Our company is in exactly the same situation. We have also moved to a 3rd party for STP and are now facing the same issues as the OP for Super payments for SMSFs. Can you please share if you have found a resolution.

MYOB have no interest in a solution.  I've been told through multiple calls and messages that they can't help other than to just move to online.  Like STP, there is no technical reason to require online (we can do it offline through 3rd party apps) but MYOB don't seem to want to write the code and support their offline customer base anymore - as we're 'only a small percentage of their customers'.

I have found that if you have 10 employees or less and below a certain turnover, you can register through the Australian Business Online portal for their small business super clearing house.  After registering for the SBCH, you need to set up all of your super payees manually, then enter the payment manually through the portal, instead of MYOB doing it.   I had all of the securities and accesses already so it was pretty quick and easy to register for.

Setting up the payees took slightly longer.

Downside, is that SBSCH will apparently shut down as of June 30 2026(?) as the move to pay-day Super payments is introduced.   This isn't actually in law yet, so I don't think the processes for how this will work are in place - hopefully it'll move back to paying Super bank accounts, rather than having to go through clearing houses.   Hopefully MYOB will get their proverbial together by then...?

Yes, we have around 1/4 of our employees with SMSF's and do suspect that was the key issue with MYOB processing.  We've just started processing them all through the SBSCH.

Interestingly, the MYOB clearing house used to take a couple of weeks to clear the funds through to the payees.  When loading it through SBSCH, it hit their super accounts the following business day.   I guess MYOB hold everyone's funds and gain some interest for a couple of weeks? /shrug

Correct - we just do a manual entries into MYOB for the Super payments.  PITA, but at least a temporary solution to this ridiculous situation.

    Hi zswiss,

To pay contributions to a self-managed super fund (SMSF) from AccountRight, your STP reports must have been successfully accepted by the ATO. This confirms your business is verified with the ATO and helps ensure SMSF payments are only made by legitimate, registered employers. Therefore, STP must be set up in your company file in order to continue making super payments.  This change was made last month to help users stay compliant; information was included in the desktop notes from the last release for 2025.4 in May. You can check out the full release notes here.

We haven't stopped supporting STP. Setting up STP from your MYOB file is definitely possible, you can check out step by step instructions on this page. Before you begin the setup, you'll need to make sure your company file is online and that you're using the latest version of AccountRight.

    Regards,

    Shella

    Hi Shella,

    This information is incorrect.

STP can still be queried through the ATO in order to confirm SMSF compliance.  This does not require an online file to occur.  Both zswiss and I are doing this using 3rd party software since MYOB discontinued support for this function.  The fact we can still do it with 3rd party software and our offline files proves that it is possible.

MYOB have stopped supporting STP for OFFLINE files.  This is the same application issue that both zswiss and I have encountered.  Now MYOB are also preventing Superannuation compliance too - as both of us have stated in posts above that we have no intention to put our company files online.

Changes over the past couple of years to OFFLINE file support are totally crippling the usability of MYOB software.  Users like us will not be moving to online files.  MYOB need to properly support their offline file users and provide proper notice periods of significant changes, as was provided for the change to STP.  Insufficient and very little visible notice was provided about the change to Super payments to SMSF's.

Changes to MYOB to retain statutory compliance do not require online files, MYOB are just electing to not develop their offline file support/coding further to enable OFFLINE files to continue working with full functionality.  Hopefully this position changes sometime soon!

    Hi MJPop,

Hitting roadblocks with MYOB and discussing with the ATO we will initially be paying only our SMSFs through SBSCH.

Can you please provide details on how you record these payments in MYOB after they are processed through SBSCH. Are you creating a Spend Money transaction?

How is this reflected in MYOB "Pay Superannuation". We have the payments for our SMSFs listed here for the month of June as not been paid.

Sorry for the slow reply - i was out last week.

Yes, we do an individual spend money transaction which is itemised for for each individual super account.  It still sits there in "pay superranuation" as unpaid, but it doesn't affect accounting as the function has just been bypassed.

Not sure how it will work doing some via SBSCH and the rest through MYOB, as we do it all through SBSCH now!

Hi Julie_A_C , yes this is the current plan.  But it's also not law yet - which seems to be partly why there is no detail around it yet.

Will we still have to pay into a clearing house?  Or will we EFT directly to the member's funds?

The ATO likes to pay close attention to this type of thing and I understand the intent is to clear up non-conformance with Super payments and make sure employees get the super that is owed to them, on time.  As such, it's likely some kind of clearing house may still be needed, to reduce the government Super payment reporting requirements.

ATO have said that SBSCH will be shut down, but they also won't be able to leave thousands of Australian SME's without a method of paying Super.

The answers will come in time, but until then, SBSCH is the only workaround we currently have for MYOB's lack of support for Super payments to SMSF employees when using offline files.

Yes the ATO back pedal on a lot of things.  The problem with both doing it on the SBSCH as well as using any of the super clearing houses is then need to enter everything twice.  Once on MYOB and then on the Super clearing house.
