Error -171 ????

This MYOB import function is doing my head in.

Client is importing a sales service invoice, getting a -171: A category is required error. I tried the same file on my test copy of MYOB and it imported with only a warning about job number, which was expected.

Whats a -171 error, and how do I fix it. Files attached.

Thanks.

Glenn

  • Hi GlennL

Yes MYOB's import process can be 'challenging'. First check this file's settings under Setup > Preferences > System. Check if Category tracking is 'on' and whether a Category is 'required'.

If not, manually enter 2 invoices of the type you want to import, and export these. Use this export as the basis for you import, including the column order and column names, as well as the {}.

    Thanks Gavin,

Yes you are right, the accountant had turned on Categories and made them required.

It would be good if the import assistant / automatch page would indicate all fields that are required when a required feature is turned on. In this case, a * next to the Category column would have made this a lot easier.

    Regards

    Glenn
