Permanent who resigned returning as casual in same financial year

I have employee who is permanent who resigned in Dec 2024 and returning in May 2025 as casual.  Do I just change her status from inactive to active and update her wages to casual rate?

  • Hi LeanLoo

A client of mine tried this recently and had problems with leave being reinstated and some of the previous forum posts show that this happens often, even though it shouldn't. It appears to be best to create a new card for the employee, rather than go through the trouble of having MYOB fix the leave for you.

    Cheers

    Hi LeanLoo,

If you're bringing back an employee in the same payroll year they left and using their old employee card, just undo their termination and reverse their STP finalisation. That lets the ATO know they're back and being paid again. Then, switch them to active and update their pay to the casual rate. You can check this link for the process.

    Cheers,

    Shella
