Hi moff
I have previously summarised the change here and there have been a lot of additional comments and replies since then as well.
We also have a help page published to further explain why MYOB has made this change here
To directly address your query, this change how nothing to do with collecting information, but it is related to ensuring that only a verified/legitimate business can use MYOB software to send invoices.
This in turn will help to reduce invoice fraud in Australia while our secure invoicing platform also provides additional security to our customers through secure invoice distribution, secure payment methods and always-on fraud monitoring

would love to know how to opt out of the myob payments platform.

Hey frank3 , no secrets here
The process to turn payments off/on can be found here
If you have recurring invoice templates these will need to be adjusted individually
The other exception is that any open invoices you have at the time you upgrade will automatically have payments enabled.

Hi Mike
The best way to verify a legitimate business is to check the ABN number which is already supplied to MYOB. Drivers License and Passports do not make a business a legitimate business, they never have and never will. MYOB have opted everyone into their payment and funding options instead of asking the Customer if they want to opt in. A non legitimate business can just print the invoice as a PDF file and attach it to a communication platform, easily by passing your additional security. What discount will customers get for now having the email function disabled, a feature we are currently paying for? Nothing you have said has changed my mind that this is just pure Unnecessary DATA Harvesting. Once MYOB ownership was moved to a Hedge Fund the customer and customer service has truely been left behind. Hours wasted on this verfication issue not to mention the 7 hours and $90 cost to get the " The invalid fingerprint " issued fixed , a MYOB issue.

Hi Folklore
The issue is that ABNs are publicly available, they're findable through a websearch and they print on receipts when you make a purchase.
Without verification, there is nothing to stop anyone opening an account under your ABN and issuing fraudulent invoices.
By verifying identity of the owners of the business, we ensure that anyone distributing invoices through the MYOB software is legimitately related to the business associated with the account.- Folklore1 month agoContributing User
Hi Mike, that is correct ABN numbers are easily found, but when opening a business bank account the ABN number is checked with the name of the account being opened along with the 100 points of ID required, the work / identity / verification has already been done. Still no repsonse on what discounts customers will receive when part of the product they pay for is no longer available.
